The investment cost for 5 TPD precipitated silica production by this process is around 1.6 million USD and the production cost is roughly 0.6 US. Amorphous precipitated and fumed silica are manufactured synthetic SiO2 products via precipitation methods and flame-based processes. The resulting precipitated silica is characterized by DBP oil absorption of 140-230 ml/100g, a BET surface area of 100-220 m2/g, a CTAB surface area of 100-200 m2/g, and a Hg-intrusion peak maximum of 0.065 to 0.095 ml/(gnm). The IPSIT process is able to meet the different industry demands with respect to the quality of the silica. Removing the precipitated silica from the reactor, washing it in a conventional way, drying it in a conventional way, optionally compacting it and packing it. Invented in 1951, precipitated silica has become an indispensable additive in the tire and rubber industry ULTRASIL® VN 3 active filler has enabled the development of modern high-performance tires Evonik has expanded production capacity for ULTRASIL® in all regions of the world over a five-year period Essen. These applications require silica of different grades which are characterized by surface area, tapped density, oil adsorption capacity, silica content etc. Precipitated silica finds application in many of the industries like from tyre industry, food industry, paint industry, cosmetics etc and is used as reinforcing agent in rubber, thickening agent in paints, anti caking agent in food industry. The patented Indian Institute of Science Precipitated Silica Technology (IPSIT) developed at CGPL, IISc, Bangalore is a novel method of extracting precipitated silica in commercially viable way from rice husk ash. Due to the low bulk density of the ash (around 200 kg/m3 ) its disposal in large volumes creates environmental problems. This ash has some limited use as a heat insulator in steel rolling mills, in brick making and in cement manufacturing, but largely remains unused. It is a relatively pure form of the mineral silica, which is produced by the chemical process known as precipitation. such as silica food grade, precipitated amorphous silica toothpast grade, etc. Precipitated Silica is used to improve rubber tear strength, flex fatigue resistance, abrasion resistance, heat build-up, hardness, modulus, resilience and adhesion. It can be used to manufacture white, transparent rubber products. Rice husk is a fuel having high ash content, varying from 20 – 25 % of rice husk, the major constituent (>90 of ash) being silica. Precipitated silica is a silica (SiO2) produced by precipitation from a solution containing silicate salts. Precipitated silica is mainly used as rubber strengthening agent and additives. Rice husk is mainly used as a fuel in industries in boilers for process energy requirements and for power generation. Rice husk is an agricultural residue abundantly available in rice producing countries like India, China, Brazil, and South East Asia. Precipitated Silica From Rice Husk by IPSIT Process
